About Us

Since 1971, the Cobequid District Fire Brigade  has proudly served Truro Heights, Lower Truro, Old Barns, Beaver Brook, Clifton, Princeport, and Green Oaks.

We operate two fire stations—one located in Lower Truro and one in Beaver Brook—allowing us to respond quickly and effectively across our district, which spans approximately 45 square kilometres,

Our team provides essential emergency services and community protection, including:

Fire Suppression: Responding to structural, wildland, and vehicle fires.

Emergency Medical Response: Providing rapid medical first response to assist residents in critical situations.

Motor Vehicle Collision Response: Delivering extrication, scene safety, and traffic management at vehicle accidents.

Technical Response: Specialize in high angle rope rescue & bay extraction, confined space rescue, and grain bin rescue.

Fire Prevention & Community Education: Promoting fire safety, conducting public outreach, and assisting with local safety inspections.

We are a completely volunteer-run fire brigade. Every response, training night, and community effort is made possible by dedicated volunteers from the communities we serve. We are always welcoming new members—no prior experience required, just a willingness to learn and serve.

To help protect this diverse area, we rely on strong partnerships and mutual aid agreements with fire departments throughout Colchester County, East Hants, and the Town of Truro. These relationships ensure that when our communities need help, support is never far away.

Ever thought about joining the Fire Brigade but worried you aren't ready to run into a burning building? Good news: We need more than just interior firefighters!

Running a successful emergency team takes a variety of talents behind the scenes to keep the trucks moving and the community safe. We have a spot for everyone!

Exterior Firefighters: Support the team from the outside by handling hoses, ladders, and scene safety.

Traffic Control: Keep the scene secure by managing road closures and directing traffic.
Support & Logistics: Help with equipment maintenance and "rehab" (keeping the crew hydrated and fed during long calls).
The Firemenettes: We also have a dedicated Woman’s Fire Auxiliary! This group assists with fundraising, event planning, and providing vital assistance to the brigade during and after emergencies.

No Experience Needed: We provide all the training for every role.
Flexible Commitment: We find a role that fits your skills and comfort level.
